Company Profile

Florence Fire/EMS Department

Company Overview

Florence Fire/EMS is an all-hazards department, capable of responding to a multitude of emergencies throughout our community and beyond. Our staff strives each day to provide the highest level of customer service to our community members in need. This is reiterated in our mission statement: “Florence Fire/EMS provides quality services, ensuring the safest community through education, prevention and mitigation”.

Our department is experiencing the same growth that is being felt throughout the City of Florence and the Boone County Fire Protection District. We are currently expanding our staffing levels to accommodate for the increase in call volumes that is attributed to the growth of the City. Florence Fire/EMS operates out of 3 stations and one training center strategically placed throughout the city so whether it is in an emergency or non-emergency setting, we can be counted on to be there in your time of need. A fourth station is currently under construction with completion estimated in the fall of 2024.

We are an active community partner and have established many mutually beneficial relationships with many other city, community, and county organizations. The fire department is continually searching for opportunities to improve our services, promote efficiency, and increase community and firefighter safety.

Company History

Since our founding in 1936, Florence Fire/EMS has striven to develop its solid reputation for serving the community members of the City of Florence and the surrounding Florence Fire Protection District. Our department is an all-hazards organization that provides firefighting services, technical rescue such as rope, vehicle/machinery, hazardous materials, aircraft, confined space, and EMS. In 2022 we responded to over 10,000 calls for service. Our goal is to consistently arrive within 6 minutes of notification of an alarm. The City of Florence Fire/EMS Department works diligently to meet the changing needs of our community.

Our department is comprised of 72 career personnel, 2 full time civilian and one part-time personnel. All of our firefighters are cross-trained as either EMT-Basic or EMT- Paramedics. In addition to emergency operations, we also provide other services such as community risk reduction, fire and life safety inspections, code compliance and enforcement, smoke detector programs, public education, and a close working relationship with the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati International Airport. The department maintains an ISO rating of Class 2 for the city proper and most areas within the fire protection district.
